Customs Cross River Command Deepens Security Ties With NSCDC, Correctional Service, DSS

By Success Okezie

The Nigeria Customs Service, Cross River/Calabar Free Trade Zone/Akwa Ibom Command, has intensified efforts to strengthen inter-agency security partnerships and intelligence-sharing mechanisms to enhance coordinated responses to security threats and promote lawful trade.

The move comes on the heels of a series of strategic familiarization visits undertaken by the Acting Area Controller of the Command, Deputy Comptroller Dr Nkiru Nwala, PhD, to sister security agencies in the state.

Dr Nwala, since assuming duty, has visited the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), C. E. Okarazu; the Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Aniekan Archibong Nya; and the State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Dr Faluyi Oluwole.

According to the Command, the visits were designed to consolidate existing relationships, deepen institutional cooperation and establish direct communication channels with the leadership of the agencies.

The engagements also centred on fostering a united front in tackling emerging security challenges, facilitating legitimate trade and advancing national development through synergy and coordinated action among security and law enforcement bodies.

The Command emphasized that the initiative underscores the Nigeria Customs Service’s unwavering commitment to effective inter-agency collaboration, intelligence sharing and joint operations in the execution of its statutory mandates.

It noted that the drive aligns with the policy thrust of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR PhD psc(+), built on Consolidation, Innovation and Collaboration — a strategic mantra that emphasizes strengthening existing partnerships, embracing innovative solutions to operational challenges, and sustaining unity among security agencies.

The renewed collaboration is expected to significantly enhance communication, coordination and operational effectiveness among the agencies, particularly in addressing shared security concerns and ensuring effective enforcement of extant laws within the Command’s jurisdiction.
