The newly appointed Customs Area Controller of the Apapa Area Command, Comptroller Murtala Muazu, has begun his assignment on a collaborative note with a courtesy visit to the Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, with a pledge to strengthen inter-agency synergy in securing Nigeria’s premier port.
The familiarization visit, according to a statement issued on October 12, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Isaac Hundeyin, was aimed at consolidating the long-standing cooperation between the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigeria Police Force and enhancing security architecture within the nation’s maritime domain.
Addressing the Commissioner of Police and senior officers of the Command, Comptroller Muazu expressed his readiness to work closely with the Ports Authority Police and deepen the operational synergy that already exists between both agencies.

He assured that under his leadership, the Apapa Area Command would prioritize mutual cooperation, effective intelligence sharing and joint operational collaboration to achieve a safe, secure and economically viable port environment.
Muazu stressed that a harmonious working relationship between Customs and the Police is non-negotiable in tackling emerging security challenges, facilitating legitimate trade and safeguarding national economic assets, especially at a time when the ports remain critical to Nigeria’s revenue and trade facilitation drive.
In her remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, CP Oluwatoyin Iyabode Agbaminoja, warmly received the new Customs boss and his delegation, congratulating him on his appointment and wishing him a successful tenure.
CP Agbaminoja reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Nigeria Customs Service in the discharge of its statutory mandates, noting that seamless inter-agency collaboration is vital to combating port-related crimes and protecting critical national infrastructure.

She further assured Comptroller Muazu of the Command’s continued support and willingness to strengthen the partnership through sustained intelligence sharing, coordinated operations and regular engagements, all geared towards guaranteeing a peaceful, secure and business-friendly port environment for operators and investors.
The visit underscores Muazu’s early commitment to stakeholder engagement and inter-agency partnership as he assumes leadership of Nigeria’s busiest and highest revenue-generating Customs Command
