President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Tuesday received the Director-General of the *Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola, at the State House, Abuja.

The meeting centered on the development, regulation, and overall growth of Nigeria’s maritime sector.

During the briefing, Dr. Mobereola highlighted the key milestones recorded by NIMASA in the last two years across safety, security, capacity development, and regulatory enforcement.

He also drew the President’s attention to some of the pressing challenges facing the industry.

The NIMASA DG assured that despite global and domestic headwinds, the Agency remains committed to repositioning Nigeria’s maritime sector for improved efficiency and global competitiveness.

In response, President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to ensure the continuous development of Nigeria’s maritime industry.

He described the creation of the *Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy as a strategic policy move designed to unlock the sector’s full economic potential.

“We created the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy to ensure that our maritime sector contributes far more significantly to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product. The ocean economy is a critical pillar for diversification, job creation, and national prosperity,” the President stated.

While commending NIMASA for progress recorded under Dr. Mobereola’s leadership, President Tinubu urged the DG and his management team not to rest on their oars.

He charged them to sustain the momentum, deepen ongoing reforms, and ensure NIMASA continues to play a central role in positioning Nigeria as a leading maritime nation in Africa.

The engagement underscores the Federal Government’s renewed focus on the Blue Economy as a driver of economic growth. With NIMASA as the lead regulatory agency, the administration is positioning the maritime sector to attract more investment, create jobs, and expand Nigeria’s non-oil revenue base
