PTML Customs Holds Leadership Seminar For Senior Officers, Rewards Excellence

The Port & Terminal Multiservices Limited, PTML, Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has taken a major step to strengthen leadership and professionalism with a one-day seminar for senior officers, held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
The programme, which took place at the Command’s Conference Hall, is in direct alignment with the reform agenda of the Comptroller-General of Customs, _Bashir Adewale Adeniyi , focused on building a more efficient, motivated and service-oriented workforce.
Declaring the seminar open, the Acting Area Controller, _Deputy Comptroller Nura Ibrahim Miko_, said no organization can deliver on its mandate without strong leadership at all levels.
“Leadership is the engine room of revenue generation, trade facilitation and anti-smuggling operations. The quality of leadership we provide today will determine the results we achieve tomorrow,” DC Miko stated.
He emphasized that PTML Command is investing not only in operations but also in people. He cited the newly introduced _Work-Life Balance Initiative_ as part of efforts to promote the health, welfare and productivity of officers.
The seminar drew participants from the rank of Chief Superintendent of Customs to Deputy Comptroller of Customs.
Resource persons and facilitators guided officers through practical sessions on:
*Strategic Leadership* | *Effective Communication* | *Decision-Making* | *Conflict Management* | *Ethical Conduct*
DC Miko delivered the keynote lecture for the first session titled: _“Leadership and Followership: Building a Culture of Collaboration and Excellence.”_
He urged officers to embrace teamwork, lead by example, and apply the lessons to improve cargo clearance, stakeholder engagement and overall service delivery at PTML.
The Ag. Controller also reassured the trading public and stakeholders of the Command’s unwavering commitment to transparency, professionalism and ease of doing business.
In a bid to motivate excellence, the Command presented _Certificates of Excellence_ to two officers for outstanding performance:
1. _Assistant Comptroller J.O. Ezekuse_ – Officer-in-Charge, Mile 2 Gate
2. _Chief Superintendent of Customs C.A. Ibrahim_ – Officer-in-Charge, Legal Unit
While presenting the awards, DC Miko said PTML has institutionalized a system to identify, recognize and reward diligence, integrity and efficiency.
“To all officers: your service to the nation matters. Keep giving your best. Hard work will always be noticed and rewarded in this Command,” he charged.
The seminar concluded with a call for continuous learning, inter-unit collaboration, and adherence to the highest ethical standards.
The PTML leadership said such capacity-building exercises will be sustained to ensure the Command remains a benchmark for efficiency within the Nigeria Customs Service
