The Ogun I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has ended the second quarter of 2026 with record-breaking results — posting *₦259.2 million in revenue* and dismantling a smuggling ring worth *₦4.6 billion* in Duty Paid Value within just 83 days.
Ag. Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, made the disclosure on Wednesday, 24th June 2026, while briefing journalists at Idiroko, Ogun State. He said the Command’s performance between 1st April and 23rd June reflects discipline, intelligence-driven operations, and unwavering commitment to national economic security.
Afeni reported that the Command generated *₦259,277,346.89* from baggage assessments, auction of perishable goods, Premium Motor Spirit, and other statutory charges.
This figure represents a *238% increase* compared to the *₦76,814,207.00* collected in the same period of 2025 — a difference of *₦182,445,543.89*.
“The growth is not accidental,” Afeni said. “It is the product of officers who refused to compromise, and who ensured that every importer and agent complied strictly with import/export laws. When we block leakages, revenue must rise.”

On the enforcement front, the Command intercepted *146 seizures* between April and June. The list includes cannabis sativa, foreign parboiled rice, footwear, PMS, trucks, and other prohibited items designed to undermine local industry.
Afeni highlighted three operations that exposed the desperation of smugglers:
On 3rd June 2026, officers at Ijebu-Ode flagged down truck ENU-660-XY. The bold “For Sale” inscription was meant to distract, but a search uncovered *2,427 pieces of substandard pneumatic tyres* — tyres that have caused countless accidents on Nigerian roads.
On 16th June at 10pm, patrol officers on the Itori-Wasimi-Abeokuta axis intercepted truck BKD-796-XB after the driver attempted to ram their van. Beneath bags of cement, they found *113 bags of foreign parboiled rice*. The suspect is now in custody awaiting prosecution.
On 14th June, barely a month after seizing military camouflage uniforms on Sagamu Expressway, officers at Afamin-Igbogila intercepted truck DRK-303-XA loaded with *630 bags of 50kg foreign rice*.
Beyond those, the Command also seized *2,807 bags of rice, 9,482 parcels of cannabis sativa, 62 sacks of raw marijuana, 16,525 litres of PMS in kegs, 7,642 pieces of footwear, 63 sacks of foreign sugar, 73 bales of second-hand clothing, and 1,000 tablets of Tramadol 225mg*.
“Every uncustomed item that slips through is a dagger at the heart of Nigerian farmers and manufacturers. It fuels unemployment and destroys local enterprise. We will not relent,” Afeni warned.
In trade facilitation, the Command reversed a troubling trend. It recorded *20,972 metric tons of exports* valued at *₦1,049,020,400 FOB* — a dramatic recovery from zero exports in Q2 2025. White talc, crushed thermal coal, and CNG were the major drivers.

As Chairman of the Joint Border Security Committee, Afeni coordinated joint operations with Nigerian and Beninese security agencies targeting criminal hideouts along the Idiroko-Igolo border in Ipokia LGA.
“Our message to criminals is simple: Stay away. Under our watch, this corridor will remain hostile and unfavourable for illegal activities,” he declared.
In line with the policy thrust of Comptroller General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, PhD, the Command handed over *6,981 parcels of Cannabis Indica ‘Ghana Loud’* and *62 sacks of raw marijuana* to NDLEA Idiroko Special Command.
It also transferred *77 cartons of Analgin injection, 138,600 tubes*, and *1,000 tablets of Tramadol 225mg* to NAFDAC as part of the war against dangerous, unregistered drugs.
“This handover is proof that synergy works. Customs cannot fight smuggling alone. Together with NDLEA, NAFDAC, and other agencies, we are securing our borders and protecting Nigerians,” Afeni said.

The CAC expressed gratitude to CGC Adeniyi for his leadership and congratulated him on the extension of his tenure under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He also commended his officers, traditional rulers, media partners, and law-abiding citizens for their support.
“We will sustain this momentum. With collaboration and discipline, Ogun I Command will continue to serve as a strong shield for Nigeria’s economy,” he concluded.
