The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) is set to showcase Nigeria’s advanced maritime security capabilities at the Africa International Defence Exhibition (AFRIDEX) 2026, with a series of live land and maritime demonstrations that will put the operational power of the Deep Blue Project on full display.
The high-profile exhibition, scheduled to hold from October 26 to 29, 2026, will provide a global stage for Nigeria to demonstrate the full spectrum of its Integrated National Security and Waterways Protection Infrastructure, a multi-layered security architecture designed to secure the nation’s vast maritime domain.
According to the Agency, the live demonstrations will spotlight Nigeria’s massive investment in cutting-edge maritime security infrastructure, highly trained specialised personnel, intelligence gathering and surveillance systems, as well as coordinated rapid-response capabilities to emerging security threats.
At the heart of the showcase is the Deep Blue Project — Nigeria’s flagship maritime security initiative — which has become central to securing territorial waters, protecting critical national maritime assets, safeguarding coastal infrastructure, and securing strategic shipping lanes in the Gulf of Guinea, one of the world’s most critical maritime corridors.
Speaking ahead of the event, the Director-General of NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, said the Agency’s participation in AFRIDEX 2026 goes beyond exhibition; it is a strategic opportunity to present Nigeria’s remarkable progress in maritime security to the international community.
Dr. Mobereola described the Deep Blue Project as the backbone of Nigeria’s maritime security architecture, noting that it has significantly strengthened the country’s capacity to combat piracy, armed robbery at sea, and other maritime crimes, while ensuring safe and secure shipping and the protection of maritime economic activities.

He explained that the live demonstrations will offer stakeholders, international partners and defence experts a first-hand assessment of the Project’s operational readiness, tactical proficiency, inter-agency coordination and rapid response capabilities.
“Effective maritime security is not just about deploying modern assets. It is about well-trained personnel, efficient command and control structures, and sustained collaboration among all relevant security agencies,” Mobereola stressed.
AFRIDEX 2026 is expected to draw participation from governments, armed forces, maritime administrations, security organisations, and leading international defence technology providers. The exhibition will serve as a melting pot for showcasing innovations, sharing operational knowledge, and fostering cooperation across land, maritime, air, cyber and space domains.
For NIMASA, the event presents a strategic opportunity to demonstrate Nigeria’s capacity to conduct complex, integrated security operations, strengthen regional cooperation, and protect critical national infrastructure.
The Agency reaffirmed that its participation in AFRIDEX 2026 underscores its unwavering commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s drive to enhance maritime safety and security, consolidate the significant security gains recorded in the Gulf of Guinea, and create a safe, secure and enabling environment for shipping, offshore operations and the sustainable growth of Nigeria’s Blue Economy.
