Fano Shipping Agencies Limited*, a subsidiary of *FANO Group*, has extended hearty congratulations to the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, *Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on two landmark achievements: a *six-month tenure extension* granted by *President Bola Ahmed Tinubu*, and his *re-election as Chairman of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Council*.
The goodwill message was contained in a letter signed by the Chairman of FANO Group, *HRH Eze Amb. Damian Emeka Obianigwe, and made available to journalists.
Eze Obianigwe, the Traditional Ruler of *Isi Ihitteowerri Autonomous Community, Orlu, Imo State*, and *President General of the Association of Igbo Maritime Practitioners in Nigeria – ASIMPIN*, described the CGC as a thorough-bred officer, a sound administrator, and an organizational genius.
He commended President Tinubu for the tenure elongation, noting that the extension will provide the CGC with additional time to consolidate reforms and sustain the momentum of transformation within the Nigeria Customs Service.
Speaking on the WCO re-election, the monarch said:
“The re-election of the CGC as Chairman of the WCO Council is a clear validation of his exceptional leadership and organizational ingenuity. His innovative policies and noble initiatives have not only repositioned the Nigeria Customs Service but have also strengthened global partnerships that are advancing international trade.”_
The royal father observed that the CGC’s administration has been defined by bold reforms that have significantly improved revenue generation, strengthened border security, facilitated legitimate trade, and enhanced operational efficiency across all Customs commands.
“Sir, your leadership has introduced innovations that have greatly improved revenue collection, border security, trade facilitation, and the overall efficiency of Customs operations,”_ he stated.
Describing the WCO re-election as a historic feat, Eze Obianigwe said it reflects the CGC’s visionary leadership and the growing respect Nigeria now enjoys in global customs administration.
“It is an undeniable fact that the Nigeria Customs Service today bears little resemblance to what it was four years ago. Under the dynamic leadership of the CGC and his team, the Service has been transformed, modernized, and repositioned for optimal performance.”_
The FANO Group Chairman particularly applauded the CGC’s drive toward digitization and technology adoption.
“Today, stakeholders can process their documentation from the comfort of their homes, and human contact has been significantly reduced. The Unified Customs Management System, UCMS, popularly called B’Odogwu — an indigenous platform — has successfully replaced the old NCIS II. I am confident that it will continue to improve. All credit to the CGC and his management team,”_ he added.
In his closing remarks, Eze Obianigwe prayed for divine guidance, wisdom, and strength for the CGC as he continues to steer the Service.
“May the Almighty grant you the wisdom and professional fortitude to finish strong and leave behind a legacy that generations will remember.
