The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has announced the death of one of its unit presidents, Comrade Elegbede David, who died in a “ghastly car accident” on Saturday, May 4, 2024.

Trade union spokesman John Ikemefuna said Elegbede was the chairman of the MWUN unit at APM Terminals Apapa until his death.

He described the deceased as a conscientious and hard-working person with excellent leadership skills as a trade unionist who positively influenced employees.

“Comrade Elegbede joined APMT in 2007 as a crane operator and was an upstanding union member and a dedicated APMT dockworker,” he said.

Reacting to the loss, the President-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, said the loss was painful and difficult to understand as Comrade Elegbede was a brilliant and intelligent trade union leader.

Adeyanju prayed that God grant him eternal rest and also give the management of APM Terminals Apapa, his immediate family and colleagues the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
