DG NIMASA, Dr Mobereola Declares Agency’s Resolve to Ensure Safety On Nigerian Waterways

By Ebenezer William

The Director General of Nigeria Maritime Authority And Safety Agency has promised a synergy with Nigeria Inland Waterway Agency, NIWA, to lessen accidents such as capsizing in Nigeria’s water space.

In an interactive session with journalists from various associations in the Maritime beat. Dr Mobereola stated the work done in Beyelsa will be replicated in Delta and other Coastal states where training in safety measures and consciousness would be inculcated in operators bearing in mind that the International Maritime Organization is watching closely and would rate NIMASA accordingly.

Mobereola said that there is no plan of repatriating Nigerian Cadet Seafarers from Centrinian University but would want the young talented brains to be well equipped, not half baked, so that they can be employable and return revenue to Nigeria.

In light of data sharing with the members of the press, the new DG, NIMASA remarked that it was important that members of staff of the Agency provide accurate data for the right information to be disseminated to the public.

He advised the press to the duty of watching the back of his agency by telling it the truth no matter how hard it is. Thus noting the issue of misconception among NPA, NIMASA and Shipper’s Council as a duty to be carried out by the press, in calling the Angeciea to order each time they cross their boundaries by overlapping into sister agencies domain.

As for the Cabotage Vessel Finacing Funds, CVFF, which has been paid into wrong hands in the past, the NIMASA Boss promised that the fund which is with the government will be proerly channelled to the rightful owners which is meant to support them as indeginous vessel owners in the country.

It would be recalled that this is the first interactive seesion between NIMASA under the leadership of Dr. David Mobereola, a feat which woul be done quartely to move the industry and Nigeria forward.
