MWUN President-General, Comrade Francis Bunu, Urges Tolerance and Unity on Eid Mubarak, Speaks Against Hardship in The Land

The President-General of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has extended his Sallah greetings to Muslims across Nigeria and the world as they celebrate this year’s Eid Mubarak in honor of Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him). He described the occasion as a moment for reflection, gratitude, and renewed commitment to the values of sacrifice and compassion that the festival represents.

Comrade Bunu, widely regarded as a leading voice in Nigeria’s maritime sector, commended Muslim faithful for their resilience, patience, and spirit of togetherness despite the persistent wave of insecurity, violent crime, and economic hardship affecting the northern region and other parts of the country. He noted that their ability to maintain peace and goodwill in such trying times is a testament to their faith and character.

The Ijaw-born labour activist acknowledged that, against all odds, Muslims have remained steadfast in their belief that nothing is beyond the power of Allah, the Most Merciful. He said it is this trust in divine mercy that has helped many Nigerians endure what he described as one of the most difficult and critical periods in the nation’s history. He also expressed deep sorrow over the pain and suffering faced by innocent and vulnerable citizens, stating that the current hardship has weighed heavily on the people.

Comrade Bunu appreciated the efforts of the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reposition the country and address the challenges of insecurity and inflation. He recognized the administration’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in troubled regions, and expressed hope that the spirit of Eid Mubarak would usher in the peace Nigerians yearn for. He added that he is optimistic the ongoing reforms will eventually bring about the positive change citizens are waiting for.

The MWUN leader further called on governments at all levels to urgently address the plight of Nigerians and improve living conditions. He pointed out that the standard of living for the average Nigerian remains far below acceptable levels, and stressed that meaningful interventions are needed so that citizens can live with dignity and hope. He emphasized that governance must translate into tangible relief for those struggling to survive day to day.

Concluding his message, Comrade Bunu thanked all Muslims and encouraged them to continue fostering peaceful coexistence with people of all faiths. He reminded Nigerians that only Allah knows the beginning and the end of all things, and urged the people to embrace love, unity, and mutual respect in line with the spirit of Eid Mubarak. He wished every Nigerian a peaceful and blessed Sallah celebration.
