The newly deployed Customs Area Controller of Seme Area Command, Comptroller Abdullahi Kaila, has embarked on a strategic familiarisation tour, forging key alliances with sister security agencies along the bustling Lagos-Abidjan business corridor, setting the tone for a transformative era in regional trade and security.

During his address at the 243 Recce Battalion Ibereko Barracks in Badagry on Wednesday, 1 April 2026, Comptroller Abdullahi Kaila articulated the purpose of his visit, emphasizing his commitment to fostering collaborative partnerships with sister security agencies, thereby facilitating the effective execution of his mandated responsibilities as Customs Area Controller.

“Comptroller Kaila emphasized the significance of Seme border, underscoring its status as a vital conduit for trade and services between Nigeria and neighbouring countries. He noted that the sheer scale of commercial activities, human traffic, and cross-border transactions unfolding here underscores Seme’s strategic economic importance, necessitating sustained interagency collaboration, intelligence sharing, and mutual support to safeguard this critical corridor”

Comptroller Kaila underscored the imperative of inter-agency synergy, asserting that cohesive collaboration between security stakeholders will be a game-changer for economic prosperity and community welfare, particularly in border areas where the ripple effects are deeply felt. He made a compelling plea to his counterparts, soliciting their cooperation in jointly fulfilling their collective mandate, thereby fostering a secure and thriving environment for border communities

Responding to Comptroller Kaila’s overture, Lt. Colonel Ambrose Ikoro, Commanding Officer of 243 Recce Battalion, lauded the pivotal contributions of the Nigeria Customs Service in safeguarding the nation’s borders, acknowledging their tireless efforts in stemming illicit trade and ensuring the security of the region.

“Lt. Colonel Ikoro affirmed the robust partnership between the Nigerian Army and Nigeria Customs Service, highlighting a shared commitment to nurture and elevate their collaborative framework. He underscored the imperative of bolstering NCS, citing explicit directives from the Chief of Army Staff for border units to render assistance to relevant security agencies, with NCS being a key partner”

Comptroller Kaila’s whirlwind tour took him to strategic security hubs, including the Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operating Base Badagry, the 15 Field Engineer Regiment of the Nigerian Army in Topo Badagry, and the NAFDAC Office in Seme. This proactive outreach underscored his resolve to fortify cross-agency collaboration and dismantle trade bottlenecks, paving the way for smoother commerce and enhanced border operations.
