in Ogun State

In a bid to strengthen border security, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun I Area Command, played host to a high-level joint delegation from the Nigeria Police (Idiroko) and Border Patrol Command, focusing on a unified approach to tackle cross-border crimes and economic sabotage.

The Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, noted that while the Idiroko axis is currently calm, maintaining this stability requires rigorous intelligence sharing and synchronized operations to neutralize smuggling networks.

Afeni emphasized that national security is a collective responsibility and urged personnel from both the NCS and the Nigeria Police Force to view one another as allies rather than rivals in the field.

This collaboration directly supports the Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR PhD, core mandates of Collaboration, Consolidation, and Innovation.

The Area Commander of the Nigeria Police, Idiroko, ACP Adejumo Segun expressed a strong desire to build upon the existing rapport between the agencies. The primary focus remains on ensuring the safety of residents in border communities. Providing tactical support to the NCS to curb illegal trade, sharing critical data to stay ahead of criminal elements operating along the Idiroko-Igolo border corridor.

We will continue to synergize, share intelligence, and work together for the benefit of the State,” affirmed DC Oladapo Afeni. “Our commitment to fostering strong partnerships with all security agencies and stakeholders remain unwavering.”

The visit concluded with mutual pledges of cooperation, marking a significant step forward in ensuring a secure and prosperous environment for the residents of Ogun State and the nation at large.
