Iju Nwabunike’s Mother laid to rest with lots of funfair
Okezie Nnadi
The burial ceremony of Late Nneora Maria Adaobi Nwabunike was a great spectacle, besides the church service and Requiem Mass which was on its own overwhelming with the creme de la creme in attendance . Yet was not devoid of some sort of sober reflection, looking at the entire last rites as performed by the priests at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Ukunu-Eziora, Ozubulu, Ekwusigo.
The entire reception ceremony could well pass for a carnival as it was well organized and religiously heralded by the high and mighty in Nigeria. Business tycoons, captains of industries, bigwigs in the entertainment industry, politicians, government functionaries and others.
The 27 of August, 2021 would fundly be remembered by the people of Ozubulu as the day the four elements of nature agreed with them to allow a free and uninterrupted passage for their daughter, Maria Adaobi Nwabunike, alias Iju wagon.
With lots of winning and dinning, culture and music did not take the back stage as the Brass band of Uyo gave heart rending performance of music of year to years. Victor Uwaifo’s Guitar boy and other tracks from Cardinal Rex Lawson and their contemporaries were seriously showcased.
The Nwabunike’s have made a statement and I dare say, a mince meat of whatever standard there was, with the burial of their beloved mother.
