As part of its ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) drive and commitment to sustainable community development, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has commissioned a newly rehabilitated healthcare facility in Modakeke, Osun State.

The project, aimed at improving access to affordable and quality primary healthcare services and promoting the overall well-being of the people, was commissioned on Saturday, 24th October, 2026.

The ceremony was performed on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, Ph.D, MFR, DSM, FNIPR, FNIAA, psc(+), by the Acting Customs Area Controller of the Oyo/Osun Area Command, Deputy Comptroller Wale Moses Adewole.

In his keynote address delivered through his representative, the Comptroller-General said the rehabilitation of the health centre is a clear demonstration of the Service’s people-centric approach to its statutory responsibilities and its resolve to give back to host communities.

He noted that while the core mandates of the Nigeria Customs Service remain revenue generation, facilitation of legitimate trade and suppression of smuggling, the Service has also positioned itself as a key partner in national development through strategic CSR interventions in critical sectors such as health, education and community empowerment.

According to the CGC, accessible and quality healthcare is fundamental to human dignity and national productivity, and the Service deemed it necessary to intervene to complement government efforts at strengthening health infrastructure at the grassroots, especially in communities where access to basic medical services remains a challenge.

He explained that the rehabilitated facility has been equipped to provide essential primary healthcare services to residents and will help reduce the pressure on secondary and tertiary health institutions, while bringing healthcare delivery closer to the doorsteps of the people.

The CGC further charged members of the Modakeke community to see the facility as their own, urging them to protect, maintain and utilize it responsibly to guarantee its durability and continued benefit to present and future generations.

In his goodwill message, the Ogunsua of Modakeke, who was represented by Chief Folorunsho Awoyomi, a prominent member of the Modakeke Traditional Council, lauded the Comptroller-General of Customs and the Nigeria Customs Service for what he described as a thoughtful and impactful intervention.

Chief Awoyomi noted that the rehabilitation of the healthcare facility came at a time when community-based health infrastructure is in dire need of support, and said the project would go a long way in improving the health indices and general well-being of the people of Modakeke. He stressed that partnerships between public institutions and traditional communities remain vital to addressing local needs and accelerating community development.

Members of the community, including youth and women groups, also expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Nigeria Customs Service, describing the project as a major relief that would ease difficulties associated with accessing basic medical attention. They pledged their commitment to ensuring effective management and proper maintenance of the facility.

The commissioning further underscores the Nigeria Customs Service’s deliberate strategy of deepening its relationship with host communities through impactful, need-based CSR initiatives that not only improve healthcare delivery but also foster trust, goodwill and sustainable development across the country
