The Former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has said that the fight to establish the truth about President Tinubu’s Chicago University Certificate which is widely believed to be a fraud was initiated by Late Chief Gani Fawehinmi.
Speaking to journalists in a news conference on Thursday, Atiku stated that the Nigerian constitution is bigger than any individual and that his struggle to ensure that the falsehood which seems to have been established for the past twenty-four years is about to be overtaken by the truth.
When asked if it was true that some politicians were sent to convince him to back down on the Chicago University Certificate saga, he said that it was true but that he would only stop the fight when the Supreme Court rules on the matter.
While fielding questions from newsmen one of the spokespersons of Alhaji Atiku, whose name was given as Kanu Kanu, said that the copy of the certificate presented to Alhaji Atiku by the Chicago State University carries the gender of a female.
He went on to say that though the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) have Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the certificate submitted to them by the president, the one submitted to ECOWAS has Bola Adekunle Tinubu on it.
Kanu also told the congregation of newsmen that Bola Tinubu claimed in his credentials that he attended and graduated from Government College Lagos in 1970, whereas the college was founded in 1974.
All these contradictions according to Kanu have been filed at the Supreme Court which has promised to look into the case objectively to rightly dispense justice.
Atiku however thanked all the lawyers who have fought gallantly to get these fact to this level. He also thanked journalists for standing out to ensure that this massive fraud does not shove the truth aside.
The former Vice President made a specific recognition of David Hundeyin, an independent journalist for his outstanding performance in unraveling the truth behind the Tinubu Certificategate.
On the issue of betrayal of Tinubu, Atiku said that he was approached by some of Tinubu’s cohorts to have him as his running mate in the 2007 presidential election on the platform of Action Congress.
Atiku explained that he turned down that request because both he and Tinubu are Muslims and that Nigeria is a multi-ethnic and multi-religious nation where a Muslim, Muslim ticket will not depict true democracy.
He stated further that ever since that issue in 2007, Tinubu has been on the other side of the divide. But on this certificate matter, only the Supreme Court can settle it as no amount of pressure from any quarter is enough to make him bow out.
Although Atiku and his team told the press that the case is already before the Supreme Court, no date has been announced for a hearing.
