By Okezie Nnadi

The Nigeria Customs Service hierarchy is buzzing with the one year extension of tenure of service for the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi by Presiden Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the expiration of the CGC”s tenure of office on 31 July, 2025.

The Customs Top brass who was recently elected the World Customs Organization’s Chairperson, is witnessing a rise in his stock as many Nigerians see his rise and rise as a reward for the years of hard work he has put in as the Comptroller General of NCS.

To many Senior Customs officers, the extension of Service by the federal government is well thought-out and merited.

Dr Ben Oramalugo, Area Controller Seme Customs Command, while also bearing his mind on the tenure extension, praised the Bola Ahmed Tinubu led Federal government for making this happen.

In his words: That is the best thing that has ever happened to the service. The tenure extension was based on meritocracy. He is the best CGC that has ever emerged in Customs. He is humble, intellectually savvy, hard working, accessible with good knowledge of customs. In Customs today, there is no more tribalism. It is no longer whom you know but what you know. Our CGC made it possible. We have never had it so good, except now. Our mission in Customs is to support him totally with maximum loyalty. May God continue to bless, guide and protect him.

While the celebration is still ongoing, many say that the tenure extension is an icing on the Cake. According to them, this is the best way to interprete the mood of the service right now.
