Fire Guts Part of Customs Western Marine Command in Apapa, No Casualty Recorded – NCS

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Western Marine Command, has confirmed a fire outbreak that gutted part of its premises in Apapa, Lagos, on Monday, September 28, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Acting Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Customs, Nwosu Clarine Chibunna, the fire was detected at about 10:35am within some offices of the Command, with thick smoke initially noticed emanating from the newly constructed conference hall.
The statement disclosed that officers on duty immediately activated emergency response protocols and made frantic efforts to contain the blaze before the arrival of firefighters.
Personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service were said to have arrived at about 11:25am and succeeded in bringing the fire under control.
“Upon preliminary assessment, it was established that the fire affected some property and office equipment within the Command premises. However, the Service confirms that no loss of life or injury was recorded as a result of the incident,” the statement said.
The Command assured members of the public and stakeholders that core operational activities at the Western Marine Command remain unaffected and continue as normal.
It further disclosed that a committee has been constituted to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the fire incident and to make appropriate recommendations to prevent a recurrence.
“The Command appreciates the prompt response of its officers and personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service in containing the incident. The Command appreciates the cooperation of all relevant stakeholders and reaffirms its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety, security and operational efficiency across all its formations,” the statement added
