The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has officially lifted the ban on campaigns for elective national posts, as announced by the Secretary General, Felix S. Akingboye, Wednesday,15 January, 2024.
This decision follows the Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting held on December 20, 2024, where it was resolved to schedule the National Delegates Conference for March 28, 2025, in Lagos.

Effective January 6, 2025, candidates seeking elective national posts can commence their campaigns, which will run until 6:00 p.m. on March 25, 2025. The union has emphasized that campaigns must be conducted with integrity, warning against any form of calumny or offensive posters, with strict penalties for defaulters, including disqualification.

The positions up for election are outlined in Rule 7c (ii) of the union’s constitution. Prospective candidates are urged to adhere strictly to the provisions of Rule 7c, iii a, b & c, to avoid disqualification. Nomination forms will be available from the office of the Deputy Secretary General, Training/Research, starting February 3, 2025, with the submission deadline set for 6:00 p.m. on March 3, 2025.

This announcement marks a significant step towards the upcoming National Delegates Conference, as the union prepares for a democratic process to elect its new leaders.
